When I went thru the losses of Nathan and Haylee, I avoided, at all cost, reading anything about grief. I'm not sure at the time if it was an intentional rule for me, or if I just didn't want to face what others were trying to help me discover. In the end, I found Christian blogs to best help me during those darkest moments. Although they were not concerning the topic of grief, I found a certain kind of comfort.
They not only reaffirmed that I was not alone, they helped me realize the depth of my relationship with God. I was encouraged to seek him first. Sometimes, through the struggles of others, our difficulties seem few, or better yet, insignificant.
I have followed Joni's blog for a while. I have so much admiration for her. In August 2011, she lifted the veil between her and her readers to be transparent concerning her own struggles....with anxiety. Because grief can cause and be a result of anxiety, I found myself quietly nodding my head in agreement to her hard days.
Anxiety is a topic, just as grief is, that is not widely spoken of. I love Joni's approach to life. Her blog is always refreshing and her honestly, at times, brings a smile to my face ~ or a nod to my head! Her choice in topics are wide ranged and her opinions are just as open. She brings it to the table and many times, has given me much to ponder. For this reason, I wanted to include her blog and encourage you to follow it.
Here is her short bio and the links to her blog. I have also included a separate link to her August 2011 post.
May she bless you as deeply as her words have blessed me!
Hi!
My name is Joni Johnson.
I’m a wife, and the mom of 2 great teen boys.
My loves are music, reading, my family, and Jesus!
(Not in that order, of course!)
I began blogging in 2006, as we were taking a big step in our spiritual journey as a family. The longer I kept blogging, though, the more I realized my need for transparency with my readers. I did not want to come across as some “holier-than-thou-I’ve-got-it-all-down” kind of Christian! In August 2011, I “came clean” about my struggles with anxiety and panic attacks.
As I wrote on August 2, 2011, “I truly sensed that I am not the only one with these struggles, and there are others out there who may need to read this. If I can help someone else along the way, then the purpose of this blog will be realized.” I needed my friends to understand that, though I battle with these things, God is still faithful.
So, really, that’s what my blog is all about: Let’s all realize we each have our own “giants” but we can grow together
when we support each other, love each other, and stop trying to be someone God did not make us to be!
I hope my feeble attempts can be of some encouragement and offer a boost to others, as we each grow in our relationship
with Jesus Christ.
